Returning to our healing space, this second meditation begins the work of befriending one of our inner protectors. We will meet the part of ourselves that has held the burden of defending us from invalidation. Prepare to have an interesting and open-hearted chat! Please take care of yourself before, during, and after this meditation. If you have not already, you may want to try a more neutral Calm Place meditation as a primer to learn to self-soothe before engaging in this healing.

Welcome to part two.

If you haven't listened to part one,

Please do that first to get to know your healing space.

So I'm inviting you to drop what you've been doing today,

What you've been working on mentally or physically,

So that you can drop into that same sacred healing place from part one.

You might close your eyes if you wish or rest them.

If it feels right,

Letting a full breath come easily in and easily.

And in your mind's eye,

Start to walk into your healing space and all of its details.

This place welcomes you back.

What do you notice here?

What do you see surround you?

You might take a breath here,

Thinking that you've landed,

You've arrived.

This place aims to meet you and nurture you.

It knows what you need to feel love and help.

Any sounds you hear are there to soothe.

Smells here are here to enliven you.

What do you feel under your hands and feet?

That's here to grow.

This place is here to remain.

There's nothing for you to do here other than notice.

Notice anything in the body that begins to shift.

And again,

A comfortable place to rest in this place reveals itself.

As you settle into this place,

Notice what is around you.

These surroundings hold you here,

Offering this space and time for reflection,

Healing.

And you might invite yourself to gently move your attention from this beautiful,

Peaceful place.

Guide that attention in words at whatever pace feels right.

And as you do this,

You will notice what is alive for you inside.

You might notice sensations at the heart center.

Just remember that whatever you meet with kindness,

See if whatever rises up in yourself,

You can notice.

Even if what you notice in yourself is tension or other undesired sensations,

See if you can let these sensations also be held and honored in this beautiful place.

Now we are going to do some healing work here.

As we live in a binary world,

There's likely been binary assumptions placed on you,

Especially from childhood.

And inside of you has been a part that has known the truth and has tried to assert and protect the truth of who you really are.

There has been a part of you that has protested in whatever way at being misunderstood or dismissed or misgendered.

And this part of you is a protector.

This part of you has known that the truth is important.

So for this healing meditation,

You're going to honor and be in relationship with that part of you.

So begin to notice now if you can sense the part of you that has leapt up or become activated when your gender has felt misunderstood,

Disrespected,

Diminished.

And when I say a part of you,

I literally mean that all of us have parts.

Inside of you,

You might notice this part that rises up to protect your gender has a particular tone of voice or a particular color is sensed in a particular part of the body.

See now if you can flesh it out what this part feels like.

And remember you don't need to get wrapped up in the story of a particular event.

In fact,

If a part of you starts getting enmeshed in rehashing a story,

Just ask if that part can give us a few minutes and a little bit of space because we have some deep work to do.

You can always come back to that story later.

So if you need to,

Pause this recording until you have found this part of you that comes online to protect you.

Good.

So now that you've found this part,

What are your feelings towards it?

Do you notice judgments towards it?

If you do,

That is totally okay.

See if you can invite the judgments to step aside as well to give us a couple minutes because we'd really like to see and get to know this part free from judgments.

Taking a gentle and inquisitive tone,

Ask this part of you,

What does it really want you to know about itself?

Good.

See if you can acknowledge and fully appreciate whatever this part might be starting to convey to you.

It might be where this part is coming from,

What its struggles are.

Let it know that you understand,

Or that you want to understand.

Let's honor this part for the role that they play.

It's been working hard.

To that end,

See if you can ask this part what it believes its job is.

Let it know that you've understood whatever it's told you.

Some other questions to get to know this part might be,

What is this part afraid will happen if it doesn't do its job?

Good.

Can you acknowledge these fears?

Can you extend yourself to this part,

Acknowledging how difficult things have been for this part?

And to do this,

You might want to try to speak to it the way you would a beloved person.

Now see if you can get to know how old this part is inside of you.

How long have they been trying to protect you?

You might even discover that they're a child part.

Now it's your turn to speak to this part.

Is there something this part of you,

What might you tell it that it needs to tell it that now?

Just notice how that part responds or reacts to what you've just told it.

So allowing for continuance.

Please know that this might be just the beginning of your relationship with this part.

You can come back to this meditation to repeat and deepen the exercise.

Getting to know this part,

Healing it,

Integrate it with you as a larger whole.

In fact,

You can continue this relationship for the rest of your life.

Checking in with this part with kindness so that you can speak about it,

But not having to speak or act from it.

That is,

This part might be hurt,

Scared,

Even frantic.

When we speak about our parts but not from them,

It means we're aware of the part and the part,

But not making decisions based on this part's worst fears or worst hurts.

So lastly,

I'd like to also speak to this part.

So I'm asking permission here to speak to it.

Check in and see if that part gives consent to this.

If it doesn't give consent,

Then this part isn't for it.

However,

If this part is listening,

I want to thank you for protecting this person,

For knowing what's true,

For honoring their identity.

I want to thank you for the work you do.

I want to acknowledge that if you show up as anger or frustration or despair,

You are just trying to do your job to make sure that this person is safe and honored and seen.

I want to thank you so much for the ways that you fight for this person,

And I want to acknowledge how frightened or lonely you might have been in this fight.

Now just seeing how your part responds to this,

What is its reaction to being seen and spoken to and honored?

What does it change,

If anything?

So giving yourself some time to shift out of this exercise.

See if there's anything you'd like to say to this part.

So letting yourself take in the beauty of your peaceful place,

Thank the place for whatever it is that it has offered you today.

Whatever you would like to take with you out of today's session,

It's yours and it's yours for you to keep.

Taking your time to shift out of the healing space and back to your physical space,

Perhaps give yourself some warmth either through a self hug or a hand placed on the heart.

Offer yourself a few gentle breaths as you open your eyes and seal in this healing.

Thank you for the work you've done today.

Thank you so much for practicing with me.

This is one of the best guided meditation that I have ever practiced with. I keep coming back to it knowing that I am safe to explore and heal any parts that might come up. Many times tears come, but by the end I’ll leave with self-compassion and gratitude. Thank you 🌈🩵
